Construir cidades em contextos de alta violência: é possível? O caso do Distrito Central de Honduras

É possível construir cidade em contextos de alta violência? Os quadros analíticos desenvolvidos pela criminologia na América Latina não têm considerado contextos de alta violência. O objetivo do artigo é caracterizar as dinâmicas territoriais dos fenômenos de criminalidade, violência e insegurança, e sua relação com o processo de apropriação do espaço público. A voz dos cidadãos, sublinhada a partir de questionários, entrevistas e grupos focais, reclama por mais cidade. O espaço público é um lugar de intercâmbio e segurança, que inclui não só espaços de transporte seguros, mas também de lazer, descanso e inclusive inovação artística. A importância da renovação urbana e o espaço público são enfatizados ao longo do artigo, reconhecendo menos probabilidade de desenvolvimento de iniciativas de gentrificação, que precisam inversão e consolidação de identidade simbólica e territorial. Apesar dos homicídios, das extorsões e do abandono governamental, os cidadãos parecem reconhecer o substancial da vida em comunidade: a necessidade de serem cidadãos e não só habitantes de espaços marcados pela precariedade.
